What is the Vampire Facial®?
The Vampire Facial® is a unique non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure utilizing microneedling along with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to help erase wrinkles and improve your skin texture and tone. It is also used to improve scars. (To learn more about PRP, read our PRP FAQ.)
PRP is taken from your own blood and can either be applied topically or injected to rejuvenate and improve your skin or scars. It works together with microneedling, which causes minor trauma to the skin and allows for the topically applied PRP to be absorbed over the treated areas. PRP activates growth factors that stimulate improved blood flow and angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation) as well as promote collagen and elastin production to leave a fresher and younger glow to your skin. PRP can be your fountain of youth!

What does the Vampire Facial® treat?
The Vampire Facial® can improve signs of aging across your face and body, including in the following areas:
Dark circles under the eyes
Areas with deeper, more severe wrinkles
Backs of the hands
Acne scars and pitting
What is the difference between a Vampire Facial® and Vampire Facelift®?
The Vampire Facelift® and the Vampire Facial® are not the same treatments. The Vampire Facial® does not use any fillers. The purpose of the Vampire Facial® is not to add volume to the face, but rather to enhance the benefits of microneedling with a device such as the Rejuvapen. The procedure aims to improve the texture of the skin by applying PRP (platelet-rich plasma) during and after the microneedling process. This allows the PRP to be absorbed topically over the whole face allowing for improvement of skin elasticity, texture and improvement of scars and wrinkles. (PRP can also be injected for improved results.) The combination of microneedling with application of PRP results in the stimulation of collagen and improvement of the skin texture.

Who is a good candidate for the Vampire Facial®?
During your consultation, Dr. Moon will discuss your cosmetic expectations. The men and women who are the best candidates for the Vampire Facial® are those looking to improve fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in a fresher, more rested look. Those who do not need to add volume to their face are also better candidates for the Vampire Facial®.
Many men and women are excellent candidates for the procedure. Dr. Moon would be happy to meet with you to determine if you are one of them.
When will I start to see results, and how long will the effects last?
The Vampire Facial®, like any other PRP treatment, shows a gradual progression of improvement over time. Some notice improvements starting at 3 weeks and continued improvement over the next 3 months. Some patients achieve desired results after one treatment, but others require more than one treatment. Although the Vampire Facial® and PRP can help turn back the clock, annual maintenance treatments are recommended to maintain optimal and lasting results, since it does not stop the aging process. Effects may last up to 12-18 months.
For scars or stretch marks, a series of three to five treatments about four weeks apart may be necessary to achieve optimal results. The number of treatments also depends on severity of the area to be treated.
What else does the Vampire Facial® treat?
Similar techniques used during the Vampire Facial® are used to treat scars and stretch marks. In addition to the face, the neck, hands, thighs, and buttocks can also be treated.
How long will the effects last?
Effects typically last up to 12 to 18 months depending on the issues we are addressing. For some, we may suggest 3-4 sessions 4 weeks apart to address any trouble areas and then maintenance treatments yearly. We recommend that you have annual treatments to maintain your skin’s vibrant and refreshed look. Some opt to have more frequent treatments due to the results they have achieved, and there is no contraindication to having more frequent sessions.
Are there any side effects?
There is minimal risk associated with PRP treatments, since it is derived from your own blood. Common side effects that are associated with injections in general apply to the Vampire Facial®. These include but not limited to mild redness, swelling, itching, tenderness, or bruising at site of injection. These usually are not serious and will subside after a few days.
